Applying for Health Insurance

Dear team,

I was studying my master degree in Germany and was privately insured. Now I have finished my studies and until I find a job I receive social benefits. But switching from private to public health insurance is now impossible and private insurance is also difficult as I receive social benefits for the moment. I really need your support and advice on this matter. It's been 3 months I am looking to be insured by a health insurance company but looks like impossible. My responsible person in Pro Arbeit is also doesn't have any idea. I really need your advice.

I want to acknowledge how difficult it must be to figure out how to transfer from private to public health insurance, especially that you are looking for a job. Unfortunately, it is not that easy to switch from private to public insurance: https://handbookgermany.de/en/health-insurance#faq_1390 You can try to find out if these two options will work - this are just ideas: - inform the Jobcenter/Agentur für Arbeit about your health insurance situation and the public health insurance you have chosen, so that they can enroll you. Cancel the existing contract with your private health insurance company because of your new status - inform the private insurance company about your situation. Sometimes, if you are unable to pay your private health insurance, you will not lose your insurance. You will be transferred to the emergency plan. Hopefully the information is useful for you.
