Family Reunification

Bringing wife and kid from Afghanistan

Hello,

I'm a blue card holder and working full-time job here in Germany and would like to bring my wife and kid here. Due to potential threats to my kid, after Taliban took over, I managed to move them to a third country(Pakistan). Luckily, they've Passports but unfortunately these are going to expire very soon and the tragic part is, going back to Afghanistan is not an option for renewel of passports. I did some initial research and found out that I've to apply for Family Reunion Visa FRV appointment either in Islamabad or Tehran but the waiting time is so long up to 24 months.

I've below doubts and querries, please advise:

Is there any alternative way?
Which option is better in terms of waiting time, Tehran or Islamabad?
I think my spouse don't need to show German language skill? correct me if I'm wrong.
As, I cannot go back to Afghanistan, should I apply for asylum here in Germany? What is the procedure? Will it change something in our family re-unification process?

Any ideas, suggestions, recommendations will be appreciated.

Thank you!

Dear @khalidsaif79 I am very sorry to hear about your and your families situation. Currently, an extension of an afghan passport is possible at the local embassy/consulate of Afghanistan, e.g. in Islamabad: https://islamabad.mfa.gov.af/ . Unfortunately, the waiting time to apply for a family reunification is indeed very long. On the websites of the German embassy in Teheran and Islamabad estimate a waiting time for about 12 months (but, as you assumed, it might be longer). Since you applied separately, unfortunately, there is no other way than going through the family reunion process. You can register your family for either embassy, in Teheran or Islamabad, through the online booking system of the German embassy of Kabul. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you which one is quicker. It is very likely that it will take a lot of patience and a long time. Some community members suggest that it might be faster in Tehran but can cause hurdles for your family to travel there. You should choose what is most convenient for your family. . If your family is holding a regular residence permit in Pakistan for at least 6 months, they should be able to book an appointment through the local embassy in Islamabad as well. You might get in touch with the German embassy and ask for their confirmation. . During the waiting time, you can start prepare the necessary documents to submit for your - Spouse - child Please let me know if you have further questions. Wish you and your family all the best and that you will reunite soon.

Hi @My Nguyen_Community Managerin , Thank you very much for describing a roadmap regarding my situation. I've a question regarding preparation of documents. I think you've shared documents links from this website https://afghanistan.diplo.de/af-en/05-VisaEinreise/-/2005354 My question is: should I make separate sets of documents for mother and child or only mother's set of documents is enough? Thank you.
