Brining my spouse from Afghanistan

Hello,

I am an Afghan national currently residing in Berlin under the EU Blue Card scheme, employed in a stable job. I am reaching out to inquire about the process of bringing my wife from Afghanistan to join me here.

Previously, spouse visa applications for Afghans were processed solely through the embassies in Tehran and Islamabad, where applicants have been experiencing significant delays, with wait times of 2-3 years after submitting their applications. My query pertains to whether it is possible to apply from another country and what specific regulations govern this process.

Additionally, I would appreciate guidance on how to navigate this process efficiently and effectively. Could you kindly advise me on the best and fastest way to bring my wife to join me in Berlin?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hello @mm, thank you for reaching out to us. Family reunification is a complicated process and can take years. Unfortunately, you cannot apply for family reunification from another country, even if you have a blue card and your wife has easier conditions to come to Germany, but she will not get a faster appointment in the embassy. She could make an appointment with the embassy in Tehran if she has been in Tehran for 6 months or more and has legal status there. Here we have gathered information about Afghanistan and family reunification that may be useful to you: https://handbookgermany.de/en/node/675?thema=familiennachzug#lc-start Please let me know if you have any further questions. Wishing you all the best. Barbara
