Buying a car

Hello, my name is Faisal. I want to know if we can buy a car in Germany in the first 3 months? And if yes, which authority can help us financially or not?

Hello @faisal k , thank you for your question. There is no rule that you cannot buy a car in the first couple of months, when you arrive in Germany. But it is a good idea to think about it before buying one. As you will need to cover a lot of things such as: insurance, registration of the car and a valid diving license among other things. I found a good blog entry which specifies the details of buying a car in Germany: https://www.simplegermany.com/buying-a-car-in-germany/#Can_A_Foreigner_… If you are currently with the Job Centre, they can give you a loan, which you have to pay back, to buy a car. They will probably only offer this loan if you have a concrete job offer which requires a car or a car is absolutely necessary. Whether or not the Job Centre can give you a loan also depends on your current residence status. If you are new in Germany and have applied for asylum, the “Sozial Amt” is in charge for giving out asylum seeker benefits (Asylbewerberleistungen). The Sozial Amt will unfortunately not give you a loan for a car. I would also like to add that in the first 3 months of arriving in Germany, if you have applied for asylum and are obliged to live in a refugee camp then you are often not allowed to travel within Germany and cannot go beyond your designated area. This is called "Residenzpflicht". You can find out more about your rights and obligations with a so temporary stay permit or “Aufenthaltsgestattung” here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/aufenthaltsgestattung . Unfortunately, this regulation is very restrictive, and there have been multiple refugee lead campaigns to abolish the “Residenzpflicht”.
