Housing & Moving

Certificate of Residence

Goodmorning and thank you for your work and support! I am moving in Germany soon with my family, I have signed a 3 month house contract, the contract is in my name and as I understand upon arrival I must register my address in the local authority. But since only my name is in the contract can also my husband and child register in the local authority? Thank you in advance!

Dear @gch86  , thank you for getting in touch. Your husband and child can register their addresses at the local authority even though only your name is on the house contract. Your landlord has to give you confirmation of residence. They must confirm in writing within two weeks of you moving in that you have moved in. The confirmation must include the names of all persons moving in: https://handbookgermany.de/en/registration#faq_1124. If you have any further questions, please let us know. Best, Barbara

Thank you very much for your always prompt answers and for helping us get familiars with the procedures in Germany! We appreciate it!
