Change of Visa status

I am currently an international student in Germany and will soon be marrying a German national who is also a student. Can I change my visa status from a student visa to a family reunification visa? What steps do I need to follow, and what documents are required?

Thank you.

Dear @tayintelec  , Thank you for contacting us. Congratulations on your marriage. Visa for family reunification is for people who do not live in Germany and would like to reunite with their family. As I understand, you are in Germany and have a student visa that you anyway need to study. Are you considering applying for a German citizenship? If you are married to a German citizen, you can get a citizenship if you have been living in Germany for at least 3 years and married for at least 2 years: https://handbookgermany.de/en/citizenship#faq_154 If you have any further questions, please let us know. Hey @tayintelec  , Now I understand your concern. After you get married, you can change your status from student to spouse of a German citizen: https://handbookgermany.de/en/family-reunification-for-immigrants#faq_7… Please, note that your status then depends on your marriage: https://handbookgermany.de/en/independent-residence-title-spouses Please, keep in mind that once you graduate, you will have a much better chance of getting a well-paying job. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Best Barbara
