Do insurance companies cover the costs of therapy?

Do insurance companies cover the costs of therapy? If so, what types of psychotherapy are covered? What does the process look like, do I have to pay myself and then get back the money or it is automatically taken over?

Hi @Sarah thank you for your question. What is covered by your health insurance depends on the type of health provider you have. In general, a wide range of therapies are covered by your statutory health insurance (depression, eating disorders, addictions etc...) Before you can get the costs covered, a doctor has to make a so called "Verdachtsdiagnose" or suspected diagnosis. Then you can get your therapy covered. Please make sure that your therapist are approved by the statutory health insurance (Kassenzulassung). Usually, the costs will be taken on automatically. But please double check this with your health insurance. If you have further questions that you want to ask me, please see your Inbox. Best wishes Yara
