Dual EU citizenship
Dear,
I have a question regarding family reunification. I am a dual Belgian / German citizen and my husband was supposed to join me in Belgium with a family reunification process. We have submitted the process and are waiting for the results of the Belgian authorities.
In the meanwhile, I have received a work opportunity in Germany and will move there next month, thus before the end of the Belgian family reunification process. We will have to start over the process in Germany. Now my main question is, which nationality should I use? I am Belgian of birth and have lived there my whole life, but German from heritage only.
The choice of one nationality over the other, is not the same process. So i am not sure, which one i have to choose.
Thank you
Kind regards
Hello @ladadi ,
thank you for reaching out to us. Congrats for receiving a work opportunity in Germany.
In general, those with an EU passport have easier requirements to bring their non-EU citizen to Germany then those with a German passport. One of them being that they do not need to prove A1 German.
You can find more information on the process of family reunification to EU citizens here: https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/en/visa-residence/family-reunification/spouses-joining-eu-citizens
