Family Reunification

Hello and good evening,

My name is Ali, and I'm from Afghanistan. Recently, I was granted refugee status here in Germany. However, my wife and our 3-year-old son are still in Tehran. I received a document from BAMF regarding family reunification, stating that I need to apply within three months. Unfortunately, my attempts to reach the German Embassy in Tehran have been unsuccessful. Could you please provide guidance on how I can initiate the process and book an appointment with the embassy?

Hello @ali__khrosh , thank you for reaching out to us. Yes, it is important that you do a so called “Friswahrende Anzeige” or “timely notification” and that your family applies for family reunification at the embassy. You can do that online or via your local immigration office. Here is the link for the online application for the “timely notification” https://fap.diplo.de/webportal/desktop/index.html#start . We have quite detailed explanation in 9 languages about the family reunifications for refugees and how to profit from easier conditions if you apply within the first three months. Please read our chapter carefully: https://handbookgermany.de/en/family-reunification . Please note the family reunification process is quite complex and can take over 2 years for Afghan nationals. It is important that you seek local advice as soon as you can, they can help you with applying to the German embassy in Tehran. . Please note that appointments for family reunification must be booked through the website of the German embassy Kabul. https://afghanistan.diplo.de/af-en/05-VisaEinreise/-/2005354 In case your family members are in residing legally with a Visa in Iran for more than 6months they can book an appointment via the German embassy in Tehran. . Thank you for providing the information. I've already submitted an application for the so called 'Friswahrende Anzeige' via an online platform. Despite numerous attempts, I've been unable to secure an appointment at the German Embassy in Tehran, where my wife and my son have been residing for almost a year. Currently, I reside in Frankfurt am Main. Could you kindly direct me to a local advice center within Frankfurt city? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

@ali__khrosh Great that you have already done the “Fristwahrende Anzeige” Here is a counselling center in Frankfurt am Main that can help you with the family reunification process: https://www.caritas-frankfurt.de/ich-suche-hilfe/menschen-staerken/migr… They can be reached via phone from Monday – Friday from 09:00-12:00 and from 13:30-16:30.
