Newborn U check ups
Hallo, my child was born end of last year and I would like to ask if leaving Germany for a couple of months creates any problem with the u checks. Let’s say if we move to a European country and during feb April 2025 we have to do U4 but we are abroad, can we do it in another country and provide proof? Is there any affect to the child benefits? Thanks.

Congratulations on the birth of your child, @anko !
How wonderful that you can spend some time abroad together as a family. Generally, the U-checkups are preventive examinations. They are not mandatory but are highly recommended to follow. Only in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse the U-checkups are mandatory.
The timeframes mentioned for these check-ups are guidelines for when they should ideally take place. However, there are tolerance periods during which the U-checkups can be made. You should clarify with your pediatrician and your health insurance provider how long this tolerance period applies. Perhaps you can spend your time abroad and complete the check-up afterward.
If you plan to have the examination done abroad and provide proof to your pediatrician, this should also be sufficient as long as it meets German standards.
A two-month stay abroad should not affect child benefits as long as you maintain your permanent residence in Germany. Of course, you can inform the family benefits office (Familienkasse), but for two months, this is usually not necessary.
I hope this helps you. In case you have further questions, please let me know.
