Diagnosed with Cancer before end of 2 year work contract

I am an international teacher, working on visa for school in Germany on 2-year contract, ending July 2025. I have statutory TK insurance and was diagnosed in May 2025 with severe cancer. I started cancer treatments and went on Sick Leave from teaching in early June. My visa and TK insurance is set to expire July 2025. What are my options to stay in Germany for another 6 to 12 months to complete cancer treatment? My doctor said the impact of stopping treatment in July would be 'adverse and terminal.' My employer said they can not help in any manner, and I should depart Germany when my visa expires in July. I was diagnosed with cancer while still working. I had another teaching job lined up in the EU, which I had to withdraw from due to my cancer diagnosis and treatment. Looking for advice/support/assistance on how to stay in Germany to complete cancer treatments. Thank you.

Dear @UBPPE2015 , I’ve forwarded your question to our expert, but it may take a while for they to respond. In the meantime, however, I’ve found some information that might be helpful. You can apply for a residence permit for medical treatment as soon as possible. To do so, you will need a document from your doctor outlining the treatment (duration, urgency, etc.). You will also need to provide proof of how you will finance the treatment. It may also be helpful to obtain confirmation from your health insurance provider that they will cover the cost of the treatment once you have the residence permit. You can find details here: https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/326511/#:~:text=Eine%20Aufenthaltserlaubnis%20kann%20Ihnen%20vor%C3%BCbergehend,%22%20(unter%20Weiterf%C3%BChrende%20Informationen). Best wishes, Barbara
