Staying outside Germany

Your question / concern:
I hold a Blue card. MY spouse also lives with me who is on a dependent permit with same validity. I would like to understand with this kind of residence permit for my spouse, how long can she stay outside Germany without her residence permit getting invalid or expired. Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Dear @hmhuilgol113 thank you for reaching out to us!

It is great that you are holding a Blue Card! Congratulations on your job!

Since your wife came through family reunification, she is allowed to stay outside of Germany for up to six months without her residence permit becoming invalid or expiring. This also applies, even though the hasn't expired yet.
You, on the other hand, as a Blue Card holder, may leave Germany for up to 12 months without your residence permit losing its validity.

If she needs to stay abroad for longer than six months, she must request prior approval for an extended absence from your responsible foreigners department. Only with this approval can she remain outside of Germany for a longer period without losing her residence status.

In any case, she should return with a valid residence permit. If her trip will last longer than her valid residence permit, she should apply for a new one before she departures.

I hope this clarifies her situation. Please let me know if you have further questions.
