10 hour mini jobs

Hi, I came to Germany with an Ausbildung contract and Language level of B1. But unfortunately, the employer/company told me that they don't have requirement for trainees anymore, so they offered me a full time work contract and told me to submit the new work contract to Ausländerbehörde  and it would change my visa from Ausbildung to work permit *(it also had an appeal type of page with the contract)* I submitted that document to Ausländerbehörde in their postbox and I also applied for an appointment online.

The main problem now is, I've heard that Ausländerbehörde takes a lot of time to give appointments and I don't have a source of income right now as I came for Ausbildung and they provide stipend for living expenses.

I have 10 hours per week for minijob allowed on my current Ausbildung visa, but the businesses here ask for more time (eg. 20 hours per week) which is why they prefer Students with study visa, as they are allowed 20 hours to work per week.

I know my question is a bit complex and things shouldn't have turned out like this, but right now I have to wait for the Ausländerbehörde appointment and till my visa changes from training to work. Can someone tell me the exact time period in which I would receive my appointment?

Last and the most important question,

Which type of jobs can I do here in Berlin to manage my expenses and how could I find them?, as I'm allowed 10 hours per week on my current visa.

Any sort of guidance would be much appreciated!

Dear @Xyz.123 thank you for reaching out to us. This sounds like a challenging time. It is great that you submitted your documents immediately and applied for a change! To better understand your current situation, may I ask whether you already hold any kind of degree, such as an university degree or another professional qualification? This would help me to understand your possibilities.

Nevertheless, unfortunately, to get an appointment at the Ausländerbehörde can take a while. Especially, in Berlin the waiting times tend to be long since they need to process a lot of applications.

You can request an emergency appointment at LEA in Berlin. Therefore, you need to apply at your responsible unit, probably, B1-B4: https://www.berlin.de/einwanderung/en/about-us/contact/artikel.1500715.en.php
It is crucial that you click "urgent appointment/emergency" as a subject. Additionally, it is very important that you can prove the urgency, e.g. "prove, through a letter from your employer, that without a valid document there is a risk of job loss". Please also don't forget to attach all the documents of your application.

I hope you will receive an appointment soon! Please let me know if you need any further support or have more questions.

Thank you for the reply! @My_Community_Managerin

I don't have a University degree, but I have an Automobil Technologie diploma of 2 years from BIVQ (British institute of vocational qualifications)

Secondly, I read on Ausländerbehörde website that for urgent appointment it is important that my visa duration is left for "less than 8 weeks" but I still have a valid visa for 4 months right now and the current company/employer is not at all responsive, so I'm sure that the current employer will not give me any letters that prove a cause of urgency for the appointment.

Can you please let me know that how much time does Ausländerbehörde normally take to give appointments?

And can I apply for urgent/emergency appointment without providing any document or reason of urgency?

And I also wanted to ask that is it possible if I go to Ausländerbehörde with another vocational training contract, from any other employer on the day of my appointment? Would they change it easily? Or I would need a leaving certificate from my current employer in order to change my Ausbildung?

Thank you for getting back to me, @Xyz.123

It is great that you already hold a diploma in Automobile Technology! Since you are now switching to a work contract, may I ask whether you have already gone through the recognition process for your foreign qualification? This step is crucial in order to obtain a work permit. You can find more information about the recognition process here.

Unfortunately, you will need to provide proof that your appointment request is urgent e.g, a confirmation letter from your employer. Without such documentation, the chances are lower that your application will be prioritized.

It is difficult to estimate the exact waiting times. LEA in Berlin has several departments with varying capacities. A while ago, it took around 4-8 weeks to receive a response from LEA, but please note that this may have changed.

If you are considering switching to another vocational training position, your case might be handled by a different department. You can take the new contract with you and ask at the appointment whether they would accept your application. However, please note, that even if they do accept it, they will most likely have to consult the Federal Employment Agency. Your new contract, salary, job description, etc., will need to be reviewed again. If they will approve your new training, you can expect a response from the foreigners department around 1-2 weeks later. Only after their approval, you will be able to start your new position.

Here you can find the checklist of the required documents for changing an employer in Berlin. A leave letter is not mentioned as a requirement.

There are several migration counseling center in Berlin you can contact additionally. They have more practical experience with LEA and also can review your documents with you. You can find one in your area through the BAMF website or tell me your zip code - I am happy to support you.
In case you are younger than 27, you can contact a Youth Migration counseling

Please also let me know if you have further questions.
