Apply for German working visa with Italian student permit

Hi, I am doing my master in Italy and recently I just finished an internship in Germany.  Since I already have a German address, is it possible to apply for Germany working visa in Germany with Italian residence permit when I look for jobs in the future?

Welcome to our forum, @Lynette

Congratulations on your accomplished internship!

To answer your more precisely, I want to ask you some questions.
Did you applied for a visa to start your internship in Germany? As far as I understood, you are holding a foreign bachelors degree, right? Did you already checked if your degree is equivalent to a German degree? You can find more information about recognition of foreign degrees on Handbook Germany.

Happy to get your feedback. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Hello, thanks for the answer. I had German residence permit when I did my internship but now it is already expired. And my master degree is equivalent to German university degree. I am wondering if I can apply the German working visa in Germany with my Italian residence permit when I finish my masters study and get a job in Germany.

Thank your for your reply, @Lynette

Does that mean you are already back in Italy and planning to complete your master's degree first? It is great that your degree will be equivalent to a German one!

However, unfortunately, it is generally not possible to apply for a German work visa while staying in Germany on an Italian residence permit. Your current Italian residence permit is comparable to a tourist visa, and such short-term visas cannot be converted into a long-term residence permit in Germany. This means, you have two options:

If you find a job, you can apply for a work visa at the German embassy in Italy, as that is your current place of residence. You can find the checklist of the required documents on the embassy’s website.

If you plan to move to Germany right after your graduation without having a job yet, you can apply for the so-called Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte). It allows you to come to Germany, look for a job, work up to 20 hours per week, and change your residence status within Germany once you find a job. I also share the checklist of the necessary documents for the opportunity card.

You can apply for both visa online and submit your documents first.
I hope this clarify your options. Please let me know if you have further questions.
