Applying for asylum

Long story short. Iam Syrian, came to German with student Visa (Iam pharmacist) couldnot finish my studys, couldnot convert my visa to job seeking unless I go back to Syria, so I have applied for asylum in Sachsen-Anhalt two days ago from writing this, and I couldnot find anywhere about what should I expect and when (timetable) I have asked in administration office, where I god a long speech explaining Dublin rule (I came directly from Syria to germany, never had any residency permit in any other country) where can I read what to expect (work/accommodation) and the rough timeline for the process,I understand it varies among people, but very rough estimation will do. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Yhorm , thank you for your inquiry. These answers are provisional, as we do not know your exact situation and cannot give legal advice.
If you have applied for asylum, you will be invited to a interview. It can take many months and sometimes over a year in the asylum procedure before you are invited to this interview. We recommend that you look for asylum procedure advice ("Asylverfahrensberatung") and prepare yourself well for the asylum interview. After the interview you will receive a decision, which may also take some time. About the accomodation: Asylum seekers may be required to live in refugee accommodation for a minimum length of 6 weeks and up to 24 months. The immigration office is responsible for the ‘residence requirement’ ("Wohnsitzauflage"). If you want to move later on, the immigration office has to give its permission. Whether or not you will be allowed to move out of the refugee camp depends on many factors and will be an individual decision of your immigration office.Your chances of getting permission to move out earlier are generally higher if you have a job and can pay the rent with your own income. You can read more here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/refugee-accommodation. About working as a Asylum seeker: you have to be in Germany for 3-6 months before you can apply for a permit. Also, you can only work with the permission of the immigration authorities (https://handbookgermany.de/en/work-permit). You must apply for permission for every new job.

What can you do next?

I hope this information is helpful for you. If you have further questions, please let me know.
Kind regards, Yasmin
