Arbeitlosgeld

Guten Tag,

I have worked as a researcher for at a Berlin university for more than 2 years and paid all contributions. My 18d residence permit ends when my employment contract ends. After this, I am entitled to a residence permit for up to 18 months to find new employment(AufenthG § 20).

My question is, will I be eligible for Arbeitlosgeld on this type of residence permit?

Danke im Voraus,

Dr Meral

Dear @Dr_Meral welcome to our forum & thank you for reaching out to us!

Yes, you should be eligible to receive Arbeitslosengeld I with this type of residence since you paid more than 12 months in the last 30 months.

Did you already registered yourself as unemployed at "Agentur für Arbeit"? And I assume you already applied for your new residence permit, right?

In case you need support with your applications, you can contact a migration counseling center. You can find one at the website of BAMF. You can narrow down the search if you type in your zip code. Please let me know if you need any support with this or have further questions.
