To be experienced for years in a different field from your Bachelor's degree

Hello,

I have more than 20 years of experience in Automation Engineering that is related to a bachelor's degree in Mechatronic, Electrical or Electronical Engineering. But mine is a bachelor's degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

It's not a problem in my country if you demonstrate your experience and skills to a potential employer. But I wonder how it is when it comes to applying for a work permit visa in Germany. Do I have to have a degree in a related field with my past experience to be approved for a work permit visa application? Or is another engineering degree enough if I can demonstrate my Automation Engineering experience?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best regards

Hello @automation_engineer , thank you for your question and apologies for the late reply. To receive a visa for skilled migrants you will need to provide the following documents, along with the standard documents for a national type D visa. • Proof that you have completed a vocational training programme recognised in Germany or hold a university degree recognised in Germany. • An employment contract or an offer for a qualified job from a company or organisation in Germany. • If you are over 45 years of age, you must also have adequate retirement provision or prove that you will earn at least 46,860 € gross per year (as of 2021). If you proof that you have had passed experiences in Automation Engineering in your CV and the employer offers you a job in the field and the embassy as well as the federal employment agency approve your application then there should be no problem. You can read more about the visa for skilled migrants here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/visa-skilled-workers If you have further questions, please feel free to ask Best wishes to you Yara
