Blue Card: No job in 3 months, no response from Ausländerbehörde

Dear Community,

I am currently holding an EU Blue Card, valid until 2028. I informed the immigration office (Ausländerbehörde) about my resignation on May 14th, with my last working day being May 15th. I understand that I have a 3-month period to find a new job. However, I have not yet received any response or confirmation from the immigration office regarding this.

Given the current labor market conditions, I am finding it difficult to secure a new position within this timeframe. Today, I also submitted a new request asking to extend my job search period through the contact form.

My main concerns are:

1. What happens if I do not find a job within the 3-month period and the immigration office does not respond to my extension request?

2. Can my residence permit (Blue Card) be automatically canceled without any notification from the immigration office?

3. What steps should I take to ensure that my residence status remains valid?

4. Will I be able to travel in and out of the country while waiting for a response after the 3-month period has expired?

I appreciate any advice regarding this matter.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Dear @bynoself  , thank you for reaching out to us. I understand your concerns regarding your EU Blue Card and the job search period.  If you do not find a job in the period of three months, your Blue Card will be shortened. I advise you to find a job as soon as possible, maybe this link will be useful for you: https://handbookgermany.de/en/jobsearch-and-application#faq_108 You can also apply for an Opportunity Card, if you meet all the requirements: https://handbookgermany.de/en/opportunity-card or a residence permit to search for a job: https://handbookgermany.de/en/visa-jobseekers Traveling in and out of the country can be risky. If your permit is under review or there is uncertainty about your status, it may be difficult to re-enter the country. If you have further question, please let us know. You can also ask for advice in the forum, e.g. see if others have had similar questions or topics and write your questions below + tag the person (with @). Best Barbara
