Can I do internship after exmatriculated? 16b to 16e or 17a

Hello,
I exmatriculated due failed exams.(had medical problems for 2 years, did not get any absence of leaving etc. completely my fault. Taking responsibility.) But now I found internship. I emailed auslenderbehorde but they did not answer me. Is it possible to change 16b to 16e or 17a or any other interships visas while I am still in Germany?
Thank you

Welcome to our platform, @Os1239

I am sorry to hear about your health-related break, and I hope you are feeling better now.

Your situation is quite complex and we cannot provide legal advice. However, I can give you some general information about §16e and §17a AufenthG.

Based on what I have found §16e applies only to internships that are part of ongoing studies. Since you are already exmatriculated, it is uncertain whether this paragraph would apply to your situation.

Additionally, please keep in mind that every residence permit in Germany is tied to a specific purpose. As you mentioned that you are no longer enrolled at your university, your current residence permit might no longer be valid. You should contact your local foreigners department immediately to clarify your current status.

Regarding §17a, this paragraph only applies if you require an internship to begin a vocational training or university studies.

I hope the foreigners department will get back to you soon. In the meantime you can reach out to a youth migration service to get more information about alternatives. You can find one in your area by entering your zip code: https://www.jugendmigrationsdienste.de/ueber-jmd/jmd-finden

Please let me know if you need support or have further questions.
