Chancenkarte visa

I am ammy I came to Germany on a chancenkarte visa  , I am a foreign dentist from india here in Frankfurt . I started working as a Zahnmedizinische Fachangestellte in a dental clinic here in Frankfurt . I told my employer that I was a dentist before in India and I want to work as a dental assistant at your clinic .so He made a 2 year part time contract with me as dental helper in the clinic. I want to know can I apply for a regular visa with this part time job contract of dental helper or I need a full time job position for changing my visa . Can I work as a zahnmedizinische Fachangestellte here in dental clinic as my university was H+ in India and I was a dentist before . Do I need recognition ? At welcome center they told me zahnmedizinische Fachangestellte is a non regulated profession in germany . So do I ask my employer to give me a contract of zahnmedizinische Fachangestellte for full time to apply for visa or I can go with this part time job offer . I am very much confused . I am still learning German in a school in Frankfurt , my visa wil expire soon , please let me know in which other job position can I apply ? Or what I do to change my chancenkarte visa to regular visa .

Hello @Ammy ,

Welcome to our forum!

First of all, congratulations on receiving a job offer from your current employer! I can imagine that navigating the various regulations feels confusing and overwhelming. Let me answer your questions and share some additional points worth considering.

As you mentioned, dental assistant (zahnmedizinische*r Fachangestellte*r) is an unregulated profession in Germany, meaning formal qualification recognition isn't required. However, without formal qualifications (completed Ausbildung), you may face certain workplace restrictions, such as dispensing medications or operating X-ray equipments. You can learn more about this on this website (there's an English language option in the bottom right corner). If you have specific questions about the nitty-gritty details (restrictions, rules, etc.) of the profession, the dentist association ("Zahnärztekammer") in Westfalen-Lippe might be a good contact (they specialize in qualification for dental assistants specifically). I'm not sure if they offer services in English though.

Regarding your contract question: for a skilled worker residence permit application, it doesn't matter whether your contract is full-time or part-time. What's important is that your salary covers living expenses. As a general guideline: if you're under 45, a monthly salary of €910 plus warm rent ("Warmmiete") is typically considered sufficient. If you're 45 or older, you'll need to earn at least €4,427.50 gross per month.

Have you considered getting your Indian dentist qualification recognized in Germany? There are specialized counselling centers for the recognition process. This could happen alongside your work as a dental assistant, which might be ideal given your visa timeline. Since we only provide general information here, I strongly recommend contacting a counselling center soon to help you prepare your application documents for a residence permit.

You can find a migration counselling center here: https://bamf-navi.bamf.de/en/Themen/Beratungsstellen/ Simply enter your location and choose either "Migration Counselling for Adult Immigrants (MBE)" (if over 27) or "Youth Migration Service (JMD)" (if 27 or younger).

For specialized recognition counselling, I found this center in Frankfurt that might help: https://www.berami.de/termin-anfragen/ The website is in German, but according to my research they offer counselling in English too and possibly online sessions. They also have a hotline - scroll down for contact details.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions. Good luck with your application!

Best wishes
