Change visa from Ausbildung to Skilled Worker or EU BlueCard
Hello everyone,
I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering (recognized on Anabin) but am currently in Germany on an Ausbildung visa for a 'Hotelfachmann' (hotel specialist).
When I applied for my visa in my home country, I submitted a resume that only listed hotel and service experience, and I only provided my high school diploma (Abitur).
My question is: If I now find a job as a developer and apply for a 'Zweckänderung' (change of purpose) to an EU Blue Card or Skilled Worker Visa, and I submit a new resume with my IT experience and university diploma, could the immigration authorities (Ausländerbehörde) deny my new visa and potentially even consider deportation due to the conflicting information?
And generally, how much time does a visa change like this take? I'm interested in the timeframe for both the normal application process and the 'fast-track procedure for skilled workers'.
Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Dear @hobbit99
It is great to hear that you have already started your vocational training successfully and that you also hold a degree in Computer Engineering, which is recognized in Anabin!
I completely understand your concern about the possible confusion regarding your CV. However, it is quite common that applicants only highlight experiences relevant to the residence title they are applying for. The good news is that it is possible to change your purpose of stay from vocational training to a Skilled Worker permit or even a Blue Card, if you meet the according requirements. I will link you some of our websites for more information. There you can also find the requirements of each permit.
Since you did not provide any false information, but rather limited information, it is very unlikely that this will cause any consequences. Once you have secured a job offer, it is advisable to submit a complete CV that includes all of your academic qualifications and professional experiences. This way, the caseworker at the foreigners department can clearly see that you are providing additional information and not contradictory or false information. You should provide your Computer Engineering degree along with the relevant Anabin excerpts that confirms the recognition, as well as your IT work experience.
Regarding the timeframe: the regular process (since you are already in Germany) depends on the workload of your local foreigners department. In bigger cities, where offices are often overloaded, it can take up to 12 weeks or even longer (e.g. in Frankfurt or Berlin). The fast-track procedure must be initiated by your future employer via the local foreigners department. As far as I know, this is more common when applicants are still abroad. You should talk to your future employer and your local foreigners department about it.
I hope this clear up your questions. Please let me know if you have further ones.
