Changing job search visa to student/language visa/chance karte visa

Hello,

I am asking on behalf of my sister. She finished her masters last year in November and she is currently in job seeker visa. Unfortunately she hasn’t been able to secure a job yet. Her visa expires on end of march. Can she changer her visa if she gets admission for a second masters? Or, can she change her visa into language visa if she gets admission to a language school? Or is there any other option for her to continue staying in Germany? Can she convert it to Chance karte visa too? Please let me know all the possible options. Thank you.

Regards,

Melina

Dear @melina thank you for reaching out to us for your sister.

I will try to give you an answer regarding each type of visa you asked. Please note that we can only give you general information, not legal advice. In the end, the decision depends on the case worker at the foreigners department and on whether your sister meets all the requirements or can clearly explain why she wants to change her purpose of stay.

Second Master: It might be possible for your sister to change from her current job seeker visa to a student visa if she receives full admission to a second Master's program before her current permit expires and submits the application in time. Please note that the second Master's degree might only be approved as long as it is academically reasonable and financially secured.

Language Course: Changing to a language course visa might also be possible but less certain. Some foreigners department might accept it if she can show enrollment in an intensive German course and explain why she now needs the language training, since she already studied in Germany. Others may reject it, as the purpose of stay is not reasonable.

Chancenkarte: Switching to the Chancenkarte might not be possible because she already holds a residence permit as a job seeker. Honestly, we have no experience with such cases, so she might want to consult a migration counceling center/youth migration service or a lawyer.

Another option would be to switch to a vocational training visa if she receives an offer and would be willing to start a vocational training.

It is important that she submits any new application before her current visa expires. This allows her to remain legally in Germany while the application is being processed.

I hope she will find a way or a job that fits her. Wish you and your sister all the best. Please let me know if you have further questions.
