Citizenship

Citizenship for dependent family.

Hi,

I came to Germany of skilled work visa(Blue card) in Jan 2021 and now I have PR(on account for 21month with B1) My wife and two kids(5 yr and 7yr old) came in Germany in Nov 2022. My wife is learning German(at B1 level now) and have no other work yet. I am supporting my family and not taking any benefits from state. Aft two year I will apply for my citizenship(as per new law or old law with C1)

My question is: When can my family apply for the citizenship. Can they also apply with me or do they have to meet some conditions.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @root , hank you for your patience and for reaching out to us. I will try to give you a general overview of the regulations in Berlin. The regulations in your city might differ slightly. . The general regulations and requirements for co-naturalization of spouse are: 1. four years of habitual legal residence in Germany 2. to be married for two years. As you mentioned your wife has only been living in Germany for over a year. . For the co-naturalization of children the following requirements apply: 1. Three years of normal legal residence in Germany 2.Children under the age of six must have spent half their life in Germany before becoming naturalized 3.Knowledge of German must be proven by a daycare certificate or school certificates These are the regulations in Berlin, see them here: https://www.berlin.de/ba-friedrichshain-kreuzberg/politik-und-verwaltun… . I hope this information was useful. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Best wishes
