Conversion of Chancenkarte visa into student Visa

Hello Sir,

I am on opportunity card Visa here in Germany. I want to convert my visa to student visa while residing here. My Chancenkarte visa is still valid for next 6 months. Can I convert it into student visa if I get admission letter from university and have sufficient proof of livelihood according to the requirements, while living here? Or I will have to go back to my country and will have to apply for visa from there?

thank you for posting on the forum!

It is possible to change from an opportunity card to a residence permit for study purposes. 
The requirements are:

  • Proof of admission to a German university or college (certificate of enrolment)
  • Proof that your livelihood is secure - you can prove this by paying money into a blocked account, for example.
    Current information is that you will need 992 euros per month. You can check this here: https://www.einwanderer.net/fileadmin/downloads/tabellen_und_uebersichten/Mindesteinkommen.pdf
  • Health insurance
  • Proof of German language skills to at least level B2 (depending on whether you are studying in German or English).

You can apply for a residence permit according to §16b AufenthG at your local authority with proof of all requirements.
