Disability with Parents

Hi, my name is Jineth. I am writing from Sri Lanka. A similar problem to mine has been discussed in this forum, but I am asking once again for more details. I am a disabled computer software graduate. I am looking to come to Germany for my master's degree. Given my disability, I cannot meet my toilet and shower needs and cook on my own, and as a student who requires 24/7 constant care to meet my daily care needs, I have to move in with my parents. So, can I bring my parents when I come to Germany? I understand that they also need to be guarantors, that is, cover their livelihood, and I can do that. If I name my parents as my caregivers, what is the procedure for them to get a visa with me? Can they get a visa with me?

Hi @Jineth98 , it's great that you have already looked through the forum. Indeed we had a very similar question already on our forum, did the thread help you?

Please note that we are not experts in this field and mainly provide initial information.
I unfortunately do not have much more information. I would suggest the same things that I suggested for the other community member. Mainly to get in touch with your university and with a specialized counseling center.
I will also do a bit more research and get back to you.

If you have further questions in the meantime, please let me know.
Best wishes

Hello @Jineth98

How are you? Were the resources of any help?

I have some additional information for you. In general family reunification for parents is only possible in hardship cases.

For the applications for your parents as your caretaker you will have to show proof of the need for care. These can include certificates, expert opinions, degree of severe disability, care level.

You will also need to show that you have a court ruling that your parents are your legal registered care takers.

It might be more difficult to bring both your parents as care takers, because usually one care taker is seen as enough.

But I would suggest to try with the above given documents. In case you want to also receive legal help you, you can consult a lawyer, please not that this will not be free.

If you have further questions, please let me know.
Best wishes

Hello @Yara__Community_Manager,

Thank you so much for your kind and informative response. I really appreciate the effort you put into researching and sharing this information with me.

I will definitely get in touch with my university and a specialized counseling center as you suggested. However, I am unsure where to find a suitable counseling center. Could you please guide me on how to locate one?

I understand that bringing both of my parents as caregivers might be challenging since one caretaker is usually considered sufficient. However, I do not want to separate them, which is why I have also considered coming alone. As I mentioned before, I need assistance with daily tasks like bathing and cooking, but I am willing to take on this challenge despite my fears. If I come alone, would I be able to find someone to assist me with minor daily needs?

In the meantime, I will proceed with the necessary documents and steps you mentioned. Thank you again for your valuable support.

Best regards,
Jineth98
