EU Blue card

Dear TiG team,

I have a residence permit (Aufenhaltserlaubnis nach § 18b Abs. A AufenthG) valid until November. Recently, I realised I meet the requirements for an EU Blue Card, would it possible to apply for it now (in May) or it is mandatory to wait until the current residence permit expires?

Thanks for considering my request.

Hello @pa123 , thank you for your question.
As far as I know, you can already apply for the EU Blue Card if you meet the requirements. You do not have to wait until your residence permit expires. What might also be useful to know which immigration office is in charge. At times the application process can take quite a while.
Maybe also other have some experience with applying with the Blue Card that they can share here.
If you have further questions, please let us know.
Here you can read more information on the Blue Card: https://handbookgermany.de/en/eu-blue-card
Best wishes for your application

Dear Yara,

Thank you for your answer. I have contacted the immigration office in charge and the responsible person mentioned that I can only apply for the EU Blue Card before two months my current residence permit expires. The reason is the high workload at the moment. Is this a valid reason for not accepting my application? Would you recommend to contact an immigration laywer?

Hi @pa123 , thanks for the reply. Every immigration office is a bit different, unfortunately a lot of them are at capacity. What immigration office is responsible for you?
