EU long-term residence permit issued in Germany

Currently I am holding EU Blue card issued in Germany. I am not sure for how long. Why?

Because on the card itself, DATE OF ISSUE is mid September 2023 but I have started working in May 2023. The processing time before I acctually received the card was 5 months.

So I either have it for for 12 months or 18 months.

That would be the Q1. Can someone with experience clarify?

Q2: I am aiming to apply for EU long-term residence permit, here in Germany.

Apart from having German EU blue card for 12 or 18 months now, prior to coming to Germany I worked in the EU for 3 years on Work visas ("talent passport" in France and "single permit" in Belgium).

Prior to that, I also studied in Germany.

All was connected, withouth important cuts.

Will this work and study be counted towards the mandatory 5 years needed for EU long-term residence permit issued in Germany?

Many thanks! :)

Hallo ReallyNicee, Thanks for getting in touch. The EU Blue Card is usually valid for four years. If the employment contract is for less than four years, the EU Blue Card is issued for the length of the contract plus three months. You can find out more here: https://www.bamf.de/EN/Themen/MigrationAufenthalt/ZuwandererDrittstaate…. If you need detailed information about your blue card, including how long you've had it, please contact migration advice centre: https://bamf-navi.bamf.de/de/Themen/Migrationsberatung/. If you want to apply for permanent EU residency, you need to live in Germany for five years, but there might be some exceptions. It's worth checking with the migration advice centre if the time in the EU from the other countries can be counted: https://handbookgermany.de/en/permanent-eu-residence-permit#faq_381. If you have any further questions, please let us know. You can also ask for advice in the forum, e.g. see if others have had similar questions or topics and write your questions below + tag the person (with @). Best Barbara
