Visa & Residence

Expiring temporary permit (skilled workers seeking employment).

Hello, I'm a 29 year old turkish citizen who moved to Germany in August 2019 to attend university. After my master's degree I got an 18 month permit to look for a skilled job.

This visa will expire on july 22nd. Unfortunately,  I didn't find a skilled job during this period, only a general job, and the immigration office told me that I can't get a resident permit with this kind of job. I have also applied for some PhDs but i haven't heard back yet.

Now, I would like to know if is there any possibility to stay in Germany with some other kind of visa or am I force to go back to Turkey?

If I go back to my country, can I apply for the other types of visas such as opportunity card or study visa, if I am admitted to a PhD program, or will it take some time before I can apply again?

Thank you

Hello @mastocolt  , first of all thank you for your question. To get a work permit for qualified professionals, you must have a specific job offer from an employer in Germany. It is important that the job you are offered is a qualified position. This means that you usually need a degree to do the job. Auxiliary tasks will not suffice: https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/en/visa-residence/types/work-qualified-professionals Maybe this link is helpful for you: https://handbookgermany.de/en/jobsearch-and-application#faq_108  If you have applied to doctoral programs I suggest you talk to the international office at your university. They may have resources or advice on extending your visa status in relation to your PhD applications. Of course, If you receive an acceptance letter, you can apply for a student visa to continue your doctoral studies. For an Opportunity Card you can apply at the immigration office. However, the Opportunity Card may only be issued if your livelihood is secured: https://handbookgermany.de/en/opportunity-card If you decide to go back to Turkey, I suppose it will take a long time to get any kind of visa. Now more and more people from Turkey want to come to Germany, so it will take a little bit to get an appointment at the German Embassy. Please contact an advice center for immigrants, maybe they can help you further: https://www.tbb-berlin.de/ and https://bamf-navi.bamf.de/en/Themen/Migrationsberatung/ You can also ask for advice in the forum, e.g. see if others have had similar questions or topics and write your questions below + tag the person (with @). Best wishes, Barbara
