Extension of Auft G. 22 S.2

hallo community,

I arrived in Germany in Nov. 2021 as one of the local workforce of Germany in Afghanistan when the Taliban took over. I have been working full time since March 2023 and haven’t received any benefits since then. The question is, I was recently informed by the Ausländerbehörde that the Aufnahme program has run out and they can’t renew my residence permit and that it would have to be done using Fiktionsbescheinigung until a new decision is made from the federal government. The question is, what happens now? Would the people be sent back? What options do one has to stay here?
I have a stable income, a university degree recognized in Germany and work in the same field as well.

Hi and welcome to our forum, dear @Hash ! Thank you for reaching out to us.

That is a very important question and unfortunately, you are one of many from the Aufnahmeprogramm currently facing this situation.

May I ask if you have already received a Fiktionsbescheinigung? It is correct that this document confirms your continued legal stay in Germany. Everything remains valid under your current residence status until the foreigners department or the federal government makes a new decision.

From what I understand, you might be eligible to switch your current residence permit to a work-related one, since your university degree is already recognized in Germany. You can find more information about the residence permit for skilled workers on Handbook Germany.

I would also recommend getting in touch with a migration counseling center or a youth migration service in your area. Please add your zip code in the according website, then you can see counseling center close to you. They can help you prepare your application and guide you through the process.

Please let me know if you need support finding one or have further questions.
