Financial options for Chancekarte

I had a residence permit while I was doing my masters degree in Germany but I had to leave the country before I could convert it to a job seeker visa. I am now applying for Chancekarte and I am wondering if I need to open a blocked account like everyone else or if there might be an exemption? I read that there are some exemptions for return visa applicants under the age of 20 and I thought maybe there are some exemptions for people like me. Also, could it be useful and enough to have a work contract instead of a blocked account?

Bonus question: Should I not apply for Chancekarte? Are there other types of visas that I should apply for to make the process easier? As an unfortunate Turkish citizen, it is really hard to find the right answers on these issues, so thank you and I appreciate your answers in advance.

Welcome to our forum, @winb
First of all, congratulations on your master’s degree!

Although you couldn’t switch from a student to a job-seeking residence permit, your German degree gives you opportunities on the job market. That’s great!

The Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) is designed for people seeking employment opportunities in Germany. Generally, applicants must provide proof of sufficient financial means to cover their living expenses during their job search. This is typically done through a blocked account, ensuring you have enough funds while in Germany. While some exemptions exist, they may not apply to your situation. Here you can find more details about the Chancenkarte and its requirements.

If you already have a job offer, you don’t necessarily need to apply for the Chancenkarte. Instead, you can apply for a work visa, as your salary is proof of financial means. Depending on your position, degree, and salary, you may be eligible for a work permit or even an EU Blue Card.
I’ll link our website with more information about those visa options and their requirements. The websites are also available in Turkish. You can also switch the language in the top right corner.

I hope this gives you an overview! Please let me know if you have further questions.
