Visa & Residence

German Property

Good afternoon,

My parents are German citizens and are living in a house that is under my name. Does Germany give me a residency permit if I own a property? I am not a German Citizen.

Thank you

Hello @abuzous , thank you for reaching out to us.

In general owning property does not automatically grant you the right to receive a residence permit in Germany.

In some cases, where the property you own generates income, such as a hotel or apartments that are rented out, then this could allow you to receive residency. However, owning an apartment alone will not give you residency in Germany.

We have more information on the different kinds of visas and immigration in general here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/immigration

Please let us know of you have further questions.
Best wishes
