Gymnasium Grades and probation
My son finished year 6 July 2024 with two grade 5 on his report, Maths and History. At the moment he is on 'probation' in year 7 and the lehrerkonferenz is deciding in January whether or not he should remain in year 7 or be put back into year 6.
I was under the impression that he was allowed 2 grade 5 on his report withought being on probation. Can somebody clarify this?
Thank you,
Angelika

Hi @Angelxxx90 , thank you for reaching out.
You already posted a question regarding the primary school system. I am answering assuming your child is in Bavaria, because the school system changes slightly according to the federal state you are in.
Unfortunately, in the German school system receiving two grade 5 means that he might not be able to continue to the next year and might have to repeat year 6. Also, if you receive one grade 6 you might have to repeat the year.
I would encourage you to chat to someone that does counseling on the Bavarian school system for further questions. The Bavarian school system is known to be one of the hardest unfortunately.
