Inquiry About My Immigration Status

Hello,

My name is Mohammad, and I have been in Germany for two weeks now. Currently, I live in Greece and obtained the Golden Visa for Greece through purchasing property. I am originally from Iran, and after coming to Germany, I fell in love with the country and wish to live here.

My question is, based on the situation I described, do I fall under the category of “immigrants from the European Union” or “immigrants from third countries”?

I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide some guidance.

Thank you very much,
Mohammad

Hallo, welcome to Germany, @Mehdi4444

As a holder of a Greek Golden Visa, you are not considered to be an "immigrant from the European Union" because a Greek Golden Visa does not give you EU citizenship. Instead, it gives you the right to reside in Greece as a so-called third-country national.

Therefore, when it comes to German immigration laws, you would fall under the category of “immigrants from third countries”, not EU immigrants. If you were a Greek citizen, then you would be classified as an EU immigrant.

If you wish to stay in Germany long-term, you will likely need to apply for a German visa or residence permit based on work, study or other grounds.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Dear Barbara,

Thank you for your response and clarification. I appreciate the information.

I am interested in applying for a work visa in Germany, and I would like to understand the process better. Here is some background about me:
    •    I hold a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from Iran.
    •    I have also completed a one-year MBA program in Iran.
    •    My German language level is A2, and I am currently attending B1 classes.

Could you please guide me on the specific steps I need to take to apply for a work visa? Also, I would like to know whether my qualifications would allow me to work in the pharmaceutical sector in Germany and what additional requirements I might need to fulfill.

I appreciate your help and look forward to your response.

Best regards
