Hello everyone, hope you are all well. I would like to ask a question regarding to naturalisation. I have previously lived in Germany for 23 months between August 2014 and July 2016. Then I moved to England and I was back to Germany on April 2023. In this case I have 37 months of legal but, interrupted residency. In this case, if I fullfill the special integration requirements, will I be eligible for fast-track naturalisation of 3 years?

Thank you very much for your response and I am doing well, thank you. What I meant was whenever I lived in Germany, I lived legally. For my residency between August 2014 and July 2016, I was only Turkish citizenship with a temporary residence permit. However, I am now Turkish-Portuguese dual citizen and since April 2023, I exercise my right of free movement for EU citizens. I should also note that, I am already registered to local Einwohnermeldeamt.

I gathered some more information and unfortunately, you will not be eligible for naturalisation if you full filled the fast-track requirements such as C1 German. The time you have spend in Germany will not be counted because, as you mentioned, you left Germany. Usually the time is only counted if there are no longer period of interruptions.

Unfortunately, as far as I know a longer interrupted residency means it will not be “counted” towards the years you would need for naturalisation. I will also double check this and hopefully get back to you soon.
In the meantime, it would be great if you could let me know what exactly you mean by legal interrupted residency. Are you an EU passport holder?
