JobCenter

Good morning,

Im a EU citizen and I moved to Germany with my partner who got a job here. I was at university at the time but I am finishing my course soon and will start looking for a job therefore I have registered as a jobseeker at the Bundesagentur für Arbeit and the next step was to register as unemployed. I had my meeting with Bundesagentur für Arbeit but because I don't speak German I didnt understand very well what I should do. They wrote ''jobcenter'' on a piece of paper for me whoch makes me assume I should go to the jobcenter next but Im not sure. Do you know what the steps are in registering as unemployed and what should I do next after having my meeting with Bundesagentur für Arbeit?

Hey MajkaP , Thank you for contacting us. Normally, when you register as a jobseeker with the Agentur für Arbeit, you should also register as unemployed at the Agentur für Arbeit. I assume because you are a student, you have to register as unemployed at the Jobcenter. I can only imagine and interpret what your case worker told you. I advise you to call the Jobcenter or your case worker at the Agentur für Arbeit with a dolmetscher, for sure you know sb who speaks german and english, if not I advise you to higher a professional dolmetscher. If you send me your zip code, I can help you find a person who can support you with the translation. Best Barbara

Hi Barbara. Thats so helpful thank you. My postcode is 89231.

I have requested to speak with someone who speaks English and I've been told (in German) that this isnt possible and I have to learn. I will be reciving my degree results in 3 days which means I will officialy no longer be a student so I am pressed for time. If there is someone who could help me it would take a lot of worries away. I tried applying for my unemployed benefits to get health insurance and I was asked to provide employment certificate but the UK don't issue certificates like this they only give P45 and I could perhaps ask my former employer for a letter with my employment details but Im not sure if that will be enough. So yes please advise who I could ask for help with this process and thank you again.
