Marriage in Germany

Hello, thank you for your time.. This is about my visa process, i'm applying for marriage visa for germany from tunisia. They wrote in the embassy that the waiting time is more than 12 months but nothing specific. so around 12 months i prepared my papers which have an expiration date of 6 months then waited for the appointment. now im at 15 months and no answer from the embassy and my papers expire in september. lets not forget that the process time for the visa can be from 2 weeks to 3 months.. what should I do i tried contacting them but they refuse to answer me or my fiance. I know I should marry here but we both decided we want to do it in Germany.

Hello @Artorias

Thank you for your question and for sharing your situation in such detail. We understand how frustrating this waiting period can be, especially when communication with the embassy is limited.

First, it is important to note that a marriage visa, or Eheschließungsvisum, is different from a family reunion visa. While family reunion applications often take more than 12 months to process, marriage visa applications can sometimes be handled more quickly, especially when there is a scheduled wedding date in Germany. Embassies may give such cases priority if they receive timely and complete information. So we hope that you will get your termin in time.

To support your case, your partner in Germany should get in touch with the local Standesamt, Bürgeramt, and especially the Ausländerbehörde at the place where the marriage is planned. The Ausländerbehörde has the authority to contact the embassy in Tunisia, inform them of your marriage date, and explain the urgency due to your expiring documents. In some cases, this kind of communication between German authorities and the embassy has helped accelerate the visa process.

If your documents expire, as may happen in your case with a September deadline, it MIGHT become necessary to renew them. The embassy implicitly confirms this rule through its legalization requirements. Given that your documents are expiring soon, it is advisable to begin renwal as early as possible in order to avoid having to restart any part of the process. Therefore, acting in advance, before September is recommended.

Please feel free to reach out again if you have further questions or would like help with the next steps.

All the best!

Thank you so much for your help I appreciate it.. Do you think the embassy will give me more time to renew the papers which would take around 2 months. It's not really my fault because I don't know exactly when they would call me. I don't want to wait another 15 months this is tough for both of us.. thank you again.

Hello again!

Unfortunately we don't have concrete information or access to the Embassies and their proceedings. But you might consider contacting them via the channels shared on this website:

I hope this has been helpful.

All the best!
