Medical check before applying work visa

I would like to ask about the health check requirements for applying for a work visa in Germany.

I was previously diagnosed with syphilis, but I have already completed the full course of treatment with Penicillin G. My VDRL test result is now 1:1, and my doctor has confirmed that I am no longer in the infectious stage.

Given this situation, may I still apply for a work visa to work in Germany as a registered nurse?

hi! I’m not an expert in this field, but I can say from my experience of living in Germany that it’s a good idea to:

  • Keep all your medical records and a doctor’s certificate (in English or German) confirming your successful treatment and current health status.
  • Bring this certificate in case the German embassy or future employer’s occupational health check requires clarification.

You’re doing the right thing by clarifying this early. As long as you provide medical proof that you’re fully recovered, your previous diagnosis shouldn’t affect your work visa or employment as a nurse.

Good luck,
