Modification in German work residence permit (Citizenship and Passport)

Dear Madam/Sir,
I hope my question finds you well. I am reaching you out on the behalf of a person who came to Germany with EU long term permit issued in another EU member country. Initially when he moved to Germany he declared him self with one citizenship and one passport. He has been living and working in Germany for last two years with work permit issued by German government for working, based on his previous EU long term permit by another EU member state. Somehow now he has gained another citizenship and passport as well from another country, he wants to change his citizenship and passport number in German work residence permit. He wants to revoke or get rid of other country citizenship and passport. Would it be easy and advisable to change or modify citizenship and passport data in Germany in his residence work permit, or he should leave it like before just in order not to complicate things or effect/risk his work permit. Could you please guide us with this inquiry.
We'll be looking forward for your positive feedback.
Best regards,
Leo

Hi @Leo789 , thank you for your question.

Please note we cannot give any legal advice. We can give general information.
Changing the EU long term permit to the other passport would very likely entail that the person has to go abroad and apply at the German embassy for the visa with the passport he wants to apply with. I am not sure if he can do this process in Germany.
But I will also do some more research and get back to you.
The person can also reach out to a migration counseling center free of charge. You can search for suitable counseling on the link below:

Hi @Leo789 , so I have some additional information for you.

It is probably not necessary to leave Germany. It would be best to have the 2nd nationality entered in your permanent residence permit. You can start this process by going to your local registry office “Meldebehörde” and state that you are getting rid of the 1st nationality and want to have your 2nd nationality entered in the residence. One will also need to submit the needed documents.

The immigration office will also likely check this.

If you have further questions, please let us know.
