naturalization without b1
I meet all requirements bar the B1 requirement.
i struggle to get from A2 to B1 due to my severe ADHD. i know the law has an exemption for people with mental, physical or psychological illness.
i struggle to find any info on what fits this exemption. i have a medical diagnosis from a clinical psychologist and a medical attest from a psychiatrist.
does anyone know whether i have a chance for getting the citizenship?
please i would appreciate no comments about stop being lazy or its not that hard to get to b1 as you are not familiar with how my condition affects my learning etc.

Hi, thanks for reaching out. I can imagine that getting to B1 with severe ADHD is difficult.
I will also forward this question to our expert and get back to you with more details, if I receive them.
It’s great that you have the medical diagnosis already. Often times it depends on the case worker at the immigration office too.
But I would suggest, go for applying for the citizenship, include the doctors’ certificates and diagnosis and also send a record of the efforts you have made to get to B1. The more specific the doctors note the better, for example, if the doctor states that it is difficult for you to receive B1 because of your ADHD.
Here is also more information on the requirements for German citizenship.
If I receive any additional info from the expert, I will let you know.
Please also keep us updated on whether your application has worked. I am sure there are also other community members who are in similar situations.
Best wishes
many thanks for your reply.
i will keep you updated of any result.
i have already applied. the case worker who checks whether all documents are complete advised me my diagnosis is not enough, but i am unsure if the person checking your application includes all documents is qualified to say this.
my diagnosis does mention it prevents me from obtaining b1, i am just so stressed and much anxiety as i cannot find any information online as to what is considered a valid medical excuse for this exemption.
@kiwigerman thanks for the info. I have forwarded this question for further insight. Once I get a reply I will let you know as soon as possible.
Best wishes
Hello @kiwigerman , I have received some further information. Sorry that it took a while.
It's important that the certificate you have received does not come from your GP but from a specialist, it has to be a very detailed diagnosis stating why you cannot achieve B1 and why it was not possible before to achieve it. Including with the documentation of your efforts to learn German and the detailed diagnosis, you should ask the case worker if she needs any additional documents.
If this is not sufficient, the last option would be to hire a lawyer.
I hope this information was a bit useful. Do you have an update from the case worker in the meantime? Would love to hear it.
Best wishes.
