§24 - is it possible to rent appartment in particular city upfront?

Hello dear fellows, thank you for that forum, looks great.

I'm a Ukrainian refugee and want to request §24 in order to get work permits.

I have specific software developer experience and it's way easier for me to find a job in Berlin than in any other city.

I don't need any government funding and can sustain myself including rent for a year. Is it possible for me to go upfront, bye rent, register in Berlin, and only then go and register for §24 in order to be allowed to work in a particular city?

Should I enroll in living in camps/ other activities if I'm requesting §24 even if I don't need the government to pay for my rental and food/other expenses?

Please advise, just looking for work permission, but it looks complicated, my career will be screwed up if I will be allocated to a city where is no software development specialization I was working. (consultant for a particular ERP system). Thank you!

Hello @Sasha , thank you for reaching out to us. Indeed once you apply for §24 you will be allocated to a commune in Germany. You can, however, apply to the immigration office to move to Berlin once you have a job that is more than 15hours a week. I would advise you also to receive counseling from a migration counseling centre if you decide to move. If you let me know what city, you are in I can find a counseling centre near you. It would be difficult to rent an apartment and receive a work contract in Berlin before you register and receive §24. Since you will not have official permission to work. You however, have the right to stay in Germany 90 days without applying for a residence. You can try and see if you can find long term accommodation in this time frame. This will increase your chances that you will be able to stay in Berlin. Depending on what city you move to you might have to stay in a refugee housing camp for a while, until you can find your own accommodation. There are also a lot of short term accommodations offers if you do not want to move into the refugee camp.
