Switching to Blue Card Residence Permit
Hello,
I came to Germany 3 and a half years ago through the aufnahme sponsorship program for Syrians in Berlin, I got a residence permit (23 ABS 1) which allows me to work and since then I have been working without any issues and I have renewed my permit twice since then. The permit expires in June 2025 and I'm afraid it won't be renewed as trouble-free as before because the situation is changing in Syria which may affect the regulations here regarding the renewal of my permit.
When I arrived here I asked if I could convert my permit into a blue card work permit but I received an answer from the authorities office saying that because of the type of my residence permit I would have to go outside Germany and apply for a blue card at the German embassy again and come back again to Germany, so I put that idea out of my mind.
But now after the recent changes in the blue-card laws this year I don't know if I can now apply for it from here? Any legal suggestions would be appreciated. I live with my wife who has the same type of residency as me.
Thank you

Hello @Yaser
Thank you for your message! Welcome to our forum!
I understand your concern in the current situation! As far as we know at the moment, all residence permits will be extended. Nevertheless, it makes a lot of sense to think about alternatives, especially if you possibly fulfill the requirements for another residence.
When you say you tried to apply for the blue card after your arrival, that was probably before fall 2023, right? It is true that there are more opportunities to switch between residence titles and also to apply for a change within Germany. This means that it would probably no longer be necessary for you and your wife to leave the country to re-apply.
Please note that we cannot offer you any legal advice. You can contact a migration counseling center near you. They will have a look at your documents and go through your situation. They also can help you with your new application. What zip code do you live in? I will be happy to find you a migration counseling center.
Happy to hear back from you.
