You can usually apply for your travel documents at you local immigration office in Berlin. You can see the requirements on their website: https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/325471/en/ One of the requirements is that you hand in your previous travel document. However, you should not be asked to go to the embassy if you hold refugee/asylum status. . There are different type of travel documents, depending on the type of residency you have received. For example if you have received a refugee status then you should receive the blue passport from BAMF. You can find more information on the blue passport here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/blue-passport Please note that as a recognized refugee one is not allowed to travel back to one's home country, otherwise the refugee status could be revoked. .
