Urgent-Change of employer

Hi everyone!

I moved to Germany to conduct and internship on Visa type D tied to my employer. I am a 3rd country national and have been doing my master in another EU country ( I still hold a valid studies residence permit of that country).

I want to switch my employer and I got 2 opportunities, one from another company and the other unpaid thesis from a university lab. For the latter I know I can switch easily under the Directive EU ( 2016/801).
But the other opportunity with company has more prospects and can lead to full time employment.
I am wondering, is it easy to get an approval for employer change, I need to graduate by September and time is not on my side but I also want a good opportunity that’s gonna help me in the future.

My question how easy it to get approval for employer change and how much time does it take? If I want to start by next month- May? Thank you

Hi @berlin-25 , Thank you for your question. Just to confirm, do you have a Visa D for the internship (§16e)? Best Barbara

Hi @berlin-25 , In general, you can change your training place as long as you inform the relevant Immigration Office (Ausländerbehörde) and receive their approval: https://handbookgermany.de/en/vocational-training-visa#faq_3226 Depending on the Immigration Office, you will need to provide a training offer or contract.

We cannot give you any information on how long the process will take or whether your application will be approved, as we are an independent online forum and not part of the Immigration Office.

For more guidance, you may want to contact a migration advice centre. They are familiar with how the Immigration Office works and can give you an idea of the processing times. To find a centre near you, go to: https://bamf-navi.bamf.de/en/Themen/Migrationsberatung/. They can also assist you with the application process.

Best wishes, Barbara
