Urgent Help Needed – Visa Extension Denied, but Music Academy Entrance Exams Are in June

Hello everyone,

I’m currently facing a very urgent and difficult situation and would greatly appreciate any advice or guidance.

I am a music student who came to Germany in May last year to prepare for entrance exams at music universities. At the time, I received a 9-month student visa, which was valid until February this year.

In January, I applied to extend my visa, as many of the entrance exams take place in the upcoming winter semester. However, the immigration officer only granted me a two-month temporary stay document (“Fiktionsbescheinigung”), which expired on April 20.

About two weeks before the temporary stay expired, I submitted another visa extension application, along with several official exam invitations and documents proving I was scheduled to attend winter entrance exams. Unfortunately, the officer rejected my application and told me that she did not want to grant me any further extension.

I was told that I must leave Germany by May 28. However, if I return to my home country now, I will miss all of the entrance exams, which are mostly scheduled in June. I have invested so much time, effort, and preparation into these exams over the past year, and missing them would be a huge personal and professional setback.

I am desperately looking for a solution that would allow me to legally remain in Germany long enough to attend these entrance exams. Is there any legal or administrative path I could take at this point? Or are there any reliable organizations, lawyers, or consultants who might be able to help with my case?

Any suggestions or contacts would mean the world to me right now. Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Best regards,

Zoe

Dear @Zoe than you for reaching out to us!

I am very sorry to hear about your challenging situation!

You should immediately contact a migration counseling center in your area since your fictional certificate already expired. They can be found on the website of BAMF by entering your zip code. In case you need help finding one, please let me know where you currently live, so I can support you finding one.
They can help you figure out a way by looking at your documents and also also how to address the foreigners department. Additionally, if needed, they can support you finding a suitable lawyer.

I hope you will figure out everything soon to be able to attend your entrance exams! Happy to get your feedback or let me know if you have further questions.
