What rights do I have whilst living in Germany as a UK Citizen?..(in regards to social security)

Hi my name is Mohammed,i am a UK citizen born and national here,I plan to move to Germany next month to live and apply for residency there,I have actively seeked out and been accepted for a minijob in a restaurant in Bielefeld! I have a certain amount of money for 2 months payment towards an apartment I have secured,e.g rent and bills and food.

i understand that the first few months may be a little difficult as I’m still settling in and juggling costs,so I want to know what kind of support would be avaliable to me from the Goverment if I am struggling with bills and rent moving forward??,just whilst I am finding my feet. My working hours would be 12 hours a week and I would be earning €500 a month.

Hi @Gujjar123 , Congratulations on your minijob and thank you for your question. I understand that starting out in a new country can be financially challenging. You may be eligible for financial support from the government if you have already worked in Germany: https://handbookgermany.de/en/jobcenter#faq_1209 We have collected a lot of information about job searching on our website: https://handbookgermany.de/en/jobsearch-and-application#faq_108 Hopefully, this link will help you. If you have any further questions, please let me know. Best, Barbara.

Hi thanks for your response and information Barbara. I have had a read through the info on the links however it is very general, I have not worked in Germany before,it is my first time I’m coming to stay and hopefully work long term, would said support still be avaliable if I haven’t taken employment or residence in the country before? And if so which kind of financial or social aid would that be?.. thank you

Hi @Gujjar123 , As you have already read, you are not eligible for social security. I cross my fingers that you find a full-time or part-time job very quickly. Best Barbara
