Challenges with getting our residence permit via Post

We received this question from the community xzm79tfngw

Hello!

We are two Ukrainian citizens who are waiting for our Resident Permits. However, as we constantly move, we can’t get a registration appointment on time and we are afraid that our documents come to our old address, where we don’t have our names on the bells any more. Is there any way for us to get the Pin Codes? Can we receive our Residence Permits in person in some place?

Details: we do not get any social help from the state and as my work place is in Munich, we struggle with finding a long term apartment but actively searching for already 2 months. We lived at friends, then in Airbnb’s, then at other friends. We now are searching for cheap Airbnb’s and we move every 1-3 weeks.

Thank you a lot for your help in advance!

Hello, @xzm79tfngw , thank you for your question! Indeed, it is very difficult for many refugees from the Ukraine to find permanent housing, I can understand how stressful that is. You should make an appointment and go to your local immigration office to ask if you can receive the residence permit in person. (As I understood you already applied for it). That way you can make sure you receive it in person. Find your local immigration office through this search engine: https://bamf-navi.bamf.de/en/Themen/Behoerden/?typ=ABH& It is still important that the immigration office can send you letters. You mentioned you lived with friends before, you can ask them if they are willing to take your letters for you and you can pick them up from their house, until you find something permanent. Please add the reference C/O and your name in the address so only you can open those letters- How to do this can be found here: https://www.nomadenberlin.com/blog2/co-germany Please inform the local authorities that your address has changed. You can try doing this via this site: https://service.muenchen.de/intelliform/forms/01/02/02/aufenthaltukrain… and say you want to make some changes. You can also let your local immigration office know when you go there. It is always a good idea to receive help with these bureaucratic processes, you can see if there are any volunteers in Munich who can support you, check out the Münchner Flüchtlingsrat here: https://muenchner-fluechtlingsrat.de/engl/. To help you secure long-term housing, there is a hotline for refugees from the Ukraine looking for housing. Maybe they can help you find a long-term apartment. See this link: https://www.vonovia.de/de-de/ukraine You can also see our general links for housing here: https://handbookgermany.de/de/ukraine-info/en/wohnen.html Lastly, you are entitled to money from the state once you have applied for the residency. Please go to your local “Sozial Amt” or social services and apply for the Asylum Seeker Benefits Act or “„Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz“ – http://www.sozialaemter.com/index.php/sozialamt-munchen/ For more information on this see: https://handbookgermany.de/de/ukraine-info/en/hilfe-vom-staat.html I hope you can receive your residence permit and long-term housing soon! Please also give us feedback and feel free to ask any further questions. Best wishes Yara
