Migrating to Germany

Good day,

Please I want to know if I can relocate to Germany with my wife.

My wife and I are both living in the Czech Republic

My wife is holder of family reunification long term residence permit and I just gained my permanent residence permit.

Can we both move to Germany and go to the Germany immigration office for German residence visa and work there?

If so which documents do we need to submit?

Thank you

Hello @Doitright
thank you for your question on our forum.

If I understand correctly, you have only been granted permanent residence in the Czech Republic, not permanent residence in the EU. You can check our information here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/permanent-eu-residence-permit
Of course this is written from a German perspective, but you can use it to check the advantages.

Of course, it's always possible to apply for a visa on the basis of working in Germany. You can check here to see if you qualify:
https://handbookgermany.de/en/information-skilled-workers
The documents you will need are listed, when you look at the visa pages.

I am glad to answer any further questions.
Kind regards
Daniela

Hello Daniela,

Thank you for your reply,

My understanding is that, ones Czech Republic is in the schengen zone, a permanent residence issued by Czech Republic is same as EU permanent residence which allows me to move and stay in any part of the schengen region,

If the permanent residence from Czech is different from EU permanent residence, then please where and how can I get the EU permanent residence permit?

Thank you

Hi again @Doitright

Sure, let me explain:

The permanent residence you get in a certain country is a national title that allows you to stay in that country indefinitely and of course to travel abroad.
However, the German permanent residence f.e. expires after 6 months of not living in Germany. This means that if you move your centre of life (home, job) to another country, your German permanent residence will expire after 6 months.
You can still travel, of course.

Now comes EU permanent residence. This title has similar application requirements. The main advantage is that it allows you to move freely to other EU countries.

In your case, you can check your options with an advice centre or a lawyer.
As mentioned above, you can always apply for a visa with a specific purpose, such as work, study, etc.

Hello Daniela,

This will be my last question,

If I gain the EU permanent residence permit and allowed to move to germany local immigration office for work permit, can I come with my wife who will be on family reunification permit? If so what documents are required for her?

You're welcome to ask all your questions.

As you are both married, she can apply for a family reunification/spouse visa to move to Germany.
All the requirements are listed here:
https://handbookgermany.de/en/family-reunification-for-immigrants#faq_7…

More information can be found here: https://prag.diplo.de/cz-de/service/05-visaeinreise/2453998-2453998
(The page is in German, you might try using automatic translation)

I wish you and your wife all the best!
