Working in Germany

Hello all,

Please I currently have a Permanent residence [ eu residenta] from another schengen country and planning to move to Germany.

1. Is it possible to work in Germany with Permanent Residence issued by another schengen country?

2. If yes,

Then appointment getting is very difficult now and a friend told me he has been waiting for 3 months after filling the appointment form,

Can I start the work while I wait for auslanderbehorder to give me appointment date?

Thank you for answering me

Hello @SeekIt , Thank you for your question. If you have an EU long-term residence permit from another Schengen country, you can stay in Germany for up to 90 days, but you are not allowed to live or work here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/permanent-eu-residence-permit

If you want to work in Germany, you must apply for a residence permit for employment at the Ausländerbehörde before you start working.

If your permit is not an EU long-term residence permit, but a national permanent residence permit from another Schengen country, you will need a work visa before you can start working in Germany: https://handbookgermany.de/de/national-visa#faq_1863

Please, check if also this information is also useful for you: https://handbookgermany.de/en/jobsearch-and-application

If you already have a job offer and there is a long delay (which is common), you can ask your employer if they can help you speed up the process. If you have any further questions, please let us know. Best Barbara

Thank you Barbara.

Please I do not understand when you say the employer can speed it up? What really do I tell the employer and what options are available to them to help me speed up the process to get appointment.

I got a job offer, which starts in April, I submited the request for appointment at the auslanderbehorder in Januar 2025 and till now I have not heard from them, I only have the confirmation slip from the appointment request.

Can I start the work in April with this confirmation slip, if not, is there an office i can go and ask the status of the appointment application?

Thank you for your help

Hallo @SeekIt , Thank you for your reply. The confirmation slip from the appointment request does not give you permission to work. You need a valid work visa or residence permit that allows you to work. There is a fast-track procedure for skilled workers, but it is designed to speed up the visa process: https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/en/looking-for-foreign-professionals…;

Your employer could contact the Immigration Department on your behalf. They can send an email or letter stating the urgency of the case and asking for an urgent appointment. They can explain that your employment is essential and ask if an urgent appointment can be arranged. I am keeping my fingers crossed that your situation will soon be positive resolved. Best wishes, Barbara
